Softball Takes Two in Virginia

SALEM, VA--The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a pair of games on Friday at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament being played in Salem, VA. The Huskies beat West Virginia State, 2-0, and Gannon, 4-1.

In the opener, Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) allowed just three hits, struck out five and did not allow a runner to reach second base in pitching Bloomsburg to the win. Reed also went 1-3 with a double and drove in one of the two runs in the game. Bloomsburg's second run of the game was driven in by Jenna Hampton (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) in the sixth inning. Mandy Koch (Dauphin/Central Dauphin) was 2-3 in the game for the Huskies.

In game two of the day, Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) struck out seven in leading Bloomsburg to a 4-1 win. Hampton went 2-3 with an RBI, while Lori Neyhard (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) and Koch were both 2-4. Bloomsburg scored two runs in both the second and third innings.

The Huskies, now 14-2, will play Northwood, West Liberty and Alderson-Broaddus on Saturday.
